Explore the Culture
Most of our island staff are native Fijians and many of them are from the villages on neighbouring Naviti Island. They welcome the opportunity to share their home and their culture with you.
We conduct regular trips to the Fijian villages on Naviti Island where you can see what day-to-day life is like for villagers living on the many islands around Fiji, away from the hustle and bustle of Nadi and Suva. The villages on Naviti Island are not tourist facades, but are authentic villages, where you'll have the chance to meet local Fijians and see how they live their lives growing crops, building houses, worshipping in church and fishing.
Back on Barefoot Manta Island, we have regular free Fijian language presentations and Fijian jewellery and basket-weaving workshops, where you can try your hand at some local crafts.
Barefoot & Naviti
As is the case with many islands throughout the Yasawas, Barefoot Manta Island is owned by the traditional people of the region.
We operate our island lodges with the blessing of the island's owners, who live in the villages on Naviti Island.
As part of our working relationship with the people of Naviti, some of the proceeds from your stay at Barefoot is sent to the villages, where they will help to maintain housing and community facilities such as the island medical centre, school and churches. We also encourage our guests to particpate in our Pack for a Purpose initiative.
